Important Points:

  • Improvement Exams takes place next year in march and results will be declared in may.Means you get a whole year to prepare for the improvement exam.
  • We can appear for improvement exam for any one or all of the passing subjects and not in the subjects in which they have been declared fail.
  • We have to submit a fee of Rs.200 per subject to the CBSE Board.
  • Forms will be released by CBSE from august till october and can be collected from School or CBSE Regional office.
  • Students may appear in the failing subject(Sixth subject) at the Compartment Examination to be held in July/August the same year.
  • Candidates who appear for improvement of performance will be issued only Statement of Marks reflecting the marks of the improvement examination.

(i) A candidate who has passed Secondary School Examination of the Board may reappear at the examination for improvement of performance in one or more subjects in the main examination in succeeding year only, provided he/she has not pursued higher studies in the mean time. He/she shall appear as a private candidate. Those reappearing in the whole examination, may appear as regular school candidates also.

(ii) A candidate appearing for improvement in subject(s) involving practical shall appear only in theory and previous practical marks shall be carried forward and accounted for.

(iii) A candidate appearing for improvement of performance shall be issued only Statement of Marks reflecting the marks obtained at the improvement examination in the subject(s).

A candidate who has passed Class 10th / 12th exams but would like to go for Improvement exam to improve performance in one or more subjects can reappear in the main examination in the succeeding year only. If you have passed class 10th / 12th this year, you have to wait for next year main examination.

For subjects involving practical work, in case the candidate has passed in practical at the main examination, he/she shall be allowed to appear in the theory part only and marks in practical obtained at the main examination shall be carried forward and accounted for.

In case a candidate has failed in practical he/she shall have to appear in theory and practical both irrespective of the fact that he/she has already cleared the theory examination.

Candidates who appear for improvement of performance will be issued only Statement of Marks reflecting the marks of the main examination as well as those of the improvement examination.CBSE Improvement Exams Paper 2009 12th Admit Card Procedure re-evaluation.

Improvement exam forms are available in july…they are the same form used for filling up re-compartment. Each form costs Rs.10, and are available at some Syndicate Banks in Delhi. There are two types of forms, one for “Delhi, DISSCE” and one for “All India…, AISSCE”….Delhi one is only for govt schools in Delhi…. All India ones are for private schools.

A candidate appearing for improvement of performance in one or more subjects can not appear for additional subject simultaneously.

Extension of last date for submission of forms and fee for the Candidates appearing under Compartment, Improvement and Additional subject categories – March 2010 Examinations.

It has been decided that the request of the candidates seeking permission for appearing in the ensuing Board’s Examinations – 2010 under Compartment, Improvement and Additional subject categories received upto 15/12/2009 may be accepted. The candidates who have already submitted their requests in this regard to Regional Offices may be informed telephonically or by phonogram/ telegram for submission of their application forms along with the requisite examination fee plus late fee. It may also please be noted that no extension of date is granted for Private Full Subject category candidates,

Individual requests on the subject matter received at the Headquarters from the candidates of respective Regional Offices are enclosed for necessary action at your end.

CBSE Improvement Exam Eligibility Criteria, Dates and Fee

Eligibility Criteria, Last Date and Fee Schedule for all India Scheme

(i) A candidate who has failed at the All India Senior School Certificate Examination of the Board,

(ii) Teachers serving in educational institutions affiliated to the Board. Who have already passed secondary or an equivalent examination at least two year before taking the senior school certificate examination.

The form should deposit in the listed branches of Syndicate Bank on or before 1 p.m. on 05 Sept. 2009 (Saturday) Form and fee may also be deposited after the above date in addition to other prescribed fee with the following late fees.

> Fee for additional 6 Subject Rs. 200
> Fee for comptt./1-improvement/1-Additional Subject Rs. 20
> Fee for 2 or more subjects for improvement Rs. 50

Additional Fee for each practical Subject Rs. 25 Late Fee :

Candidates from National Capital Territory for Delhi will deposit form in listed branches of Syndicate Bank.

The Candidate must deposit the application form for the examination with the respective Regional Office of the Board. Please note that change of region shall not be allowed under any circumstances.

If a candidate by mistake submits/dispatches the application in the Regional Office of the Board of other region than that he/she intends to seek admission and if due to this lapse the candidate fails to appear for the examination, the Board shall not be responsible. The examination fee paid for the purpose in that case shall also stand forfeited.

RULES FOR IMPROVEMENT OF PERFORMANCE IN CBSE EXAMS

1) The candidates who have passed an examination of the Board may reappear at the examination in the succeding year for improving their performance in a subject(s) or in the whole examination except failing subject provided they have not pursued higher studies in the meantime, candidate who has passed under vocation stream can re-appear in the succeding year or in the following year they should appear as private candidate. Those reappearing in the whole examination and if permitted by the school may appear as regular school candidate in full subject also. However, the candidates shall not be allowed for improvement of performance after a lapse of one year after passing the examination under any circumstances.

2) The last date for submission of form and fee for the improvement examination shall be the same as prescribed for regular or private candidates as the case may be.

3) The mark sheet and certificate need not be surrendered by the candidate to the Board while submitting their application form for improvement of performance.

4) The candidates will be issued a mark-sheet indicating their performance for improvement examination. No fresh certificate will be issued.

5) Candidates appearing at Second/Fourth chance Compartment Examination to be held in March/April will not be eligible for improvement of his/her performance in any other subject along with the compartment subject.

6) Candidates cannot appear for improvement of performance and Additional subject together in which he/she has not appeared in the previous year.

7) Candidate appearing for improvement in the Subject (s), involving practical will have to appear only in theory Examination. The old marks of practical will be taken into account.

8) In the subject(s) where Practical Examination is involved, seperate pass in theory & Practical examination as also in the aggregate of the two will be compulsory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a candidate simultaneously appear for Improvement as well as Additional subject examination?
Ans.: No, a candidate appearing for Improvement in one or more subjects cannot appear for additional subject examination simultaneously.

How many times can a candidate appear for Improvement examination?
Ans.: For improvement examination only one chance in the succeeding year is permitted.

Is a student required to appear in all subjects in improvement examination?
Ans.: No, the student can appear in one or more than one subject(s) as per his/her choice. However, improvement exam. can be taken only in the successive year of passing Class XII exams.

I wish to improve my performance in Chemistry and Maths in class XII. Is it possible and how?
Ans.: A candidate who has passed Class XII examination of the Board may re­appear for improvement of performance in one or more subjects in the main examination in the succeeding year only. The candidate may appear privately; those re-appearing for whole examination can also appear as regular candidate if admitted by the school.

  • For subjects involving practical work, if the candidate has passed the practical examination, he or she will be allowed to appear only in theory part.
  • Only a statement of marks is issued by the Board after the improvement of performance.
