NET Examination December 2014: To be conducted by CBSE


The National Eligibility Test has been earlier conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC). The entrance is conducted twice in a year . But from now NET which is conducted to test the basic eligibility for lectureship and JRF will be done so, by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) , on grounds of UGC not being able to conduct the exam hassle-free. The University Grants Commission, with the HRD ministry's consent, has asked the CBSE to conduct the test.

The inclusion of NET examination from December 2014 will make the CBSE the biggest exam conducting body, total number of candidates taking the exams conducted by CBSE has been increased to more than sixty five lakhs from around sixty three lakhs due to NET being added to this list.

CBSE is also responsible for many other national examinations such as; Class X & XII board exams for its affiliate schools, Pre-Medical Entrance Test, Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE) (mains) and also Central Teachers Eligibility Test apart from the newly added NET. It also conducts the Class X optional proficiency test.
