IAF Musician Trade Examination

If you join the Air Force as an airman in non-technical trades, you will provide invaluable assistance and support to the various functions of the Indian Air Force. The Non-Technical Trades have been divided into three categories -Combatant Group 'X', Combatant Group 'Y' and Combatant Group 'Z'. IAF Musician Trade comes under Group 'Z'. Airmen in the capacity of musicians make up the Air Force Band. The nature of job is to play different musical instruments in IAF. For the recruitment of musician IAF is conducting an exam namely IAF Musician Trade.

Eligibility Criteria:

Age: 17 to 35 years.

Educational Qualification:
Candidate should be able to read and write English and should have knowledge of Elementary Arithmetic and should be proficient at playing any of the following instruments: Trumpet / Bass / Violin / Saxophone / Clarinet / Euphonium / jazz Drum / Piccolo / Bass Trombone / Key Board.

Physical Standards:

  1. Height - 167 cms.
  2. Chest :
    (i) Minimum expanded chest should be 75 cms.
    (ii) Minimum range of expansion 5 cm.
  3. Vision - At least 6 / 12 in each eye with glasses or 6 / 6 in one eye and 6/36 in other eye with glasses.
  4. Generally free from all communicable diseases.

No Cardio Vascular, Surgical deformities or infection of the ears. No history off psychiatric ailment.

Examination Pattern:

Eligible candidates will be called for Selection Test/Interview and Medical Test at specified Centres.

You will be tested for English and Intelligence and General Awareness.
(The examination is based on the CBSE (X / XII) curriculum / syllabus.)

Medical Examination
After you have successfully cleared interview, you will be sent for a medical examination, which shall be conducted by a Medical Officer of the Armed Forces. (When you report for the medical exam, you must ensure a high level of personal hygiene and bring the latest prescription and spectacles for corrected vision to avoid delay.)

After the medical examination, you are either declared 'Fit' or 'Unfit' or 'Temporarily Medically Unfit' (TMU).

Application Forms:

Candidates must submit their application on plain paper in the prescribed Proforma as published in the Employment News and send it by Post on or before the specified last date. Application should be sent to the President, Central Airmen Selection Board, Post Box No. 3004, New Delhi-110003.

Airmen Selection Centers:

There are 13 Airmen Selection Centres spread over the country. Their addresses and locations are shown here. After selection the candidates is sent to Belgaum, Bangalore or Chennai depending on the trade for training.
