IAF Pilots Examination
Career in IAF as a pilot is very challenging and rewarding one. After selection one is trained either as a Fighter pilot, or a Helicopter pilot, or a Transport pilot and are a part of various peace and wartime missions. As a graduate, you can enter into the Flying branch of Air Force through the Air Force Academy. It is one of the most prestigious training establishments of the Indian Air Force.
Eligibility Criteria :
Age limit: 19 to 23 years on the 1st of the month of
commencement of the course.
Educational Qualification: B.Sc. (Physics/Maths) 3 years or B.E. 4 years
or B.Sc. (General) 3 years with Physics and Maths. The candidate should not have
failed INS-B/PAB Test earlier. Should not have been suspended in Flying Training
earlier.
Physical Eligibility
For Male:
(a) Height: 162.5 cms
(b) Leg Length: Not less than 99 cms and not more than 128 cms,
(c) Chest: fully expanded chest should not be less than 82 cms with 5 cms
expansion.
For Female:
(a) Height: 162.5 cms
(b) Leg Length: Between 99 cms and 120 cms.
Note: The candidates who wear glasses habitually or are colour/night
blind are not eligible and hence need not apply.
Examination Pattern :
Tests consist of: Written Examination, Physical
Fitness Test (PFT) and Interview.
You will first be tested in English. Those who qualify in English will be tested
in Mathematics and Physics. After having successfully cleared this step, you
will be required to undergo PFT consisting of 1.6 Km run to be completed in a
maximum of eight minutes. Candidates who complete the PFT in 7
min 30 sec or less will be awarded
additional marks. You are advised to come prepared with
shorts and PT shoes for the test.
Candidates who qualify in PFT will be interviewed. Candidates recommended in the
interview will only be considered for medical exam.
The Group Tests are interactive indoor and outdoor tests. The Interview involves a personal conversation with the Interviewing Officer. The test schedule is -
- Day 1 INS-B/PABT*
- Day 2 Psychological test
- Day 3 Group tests
- Day 4 Group tests
- Day 5 Interview
- Day 6 Conference

PART: Pilot Aptitude Battery Tests
After the candidate is selected by the Selection Board, he would be sent to
the Air Force Central Medical Establishment, New Delhi or the Institute of
Aviation Medicine, Bangalore for a thorough medical examination. After that
he will be sent for 72 weeks training at Air Force Academy.
Examination Schedule :
The exam is generally held in the month of January and July.

The procedure for sending your application is fairly simple. The first stage is to watch out for the advertisement inviting applications in the leading newspapers and the Employment News. After you spot the relevant ad, you send yourapplication in the format mentioned in the advertisement, before the last date of receiving of application.
