Class X

In total 902747 candidates were registered for class X examination this year. This amounts for an increase of about 9.50 % candidates over that of last year.

HIGHLIGHTS

An increase of 0.44% in the over all percentage of candidates Eligible for Qualifying Certificate as compared to 2009 results.

Percentage of candidates Eligible for Qualifying Certificate in 2009 = 88.84
Percentage of candidates Eligible for Qualifying Certificate in 2010 = 89.28

  • Girls do better than boys. Percentage of girls Eligible for Qualifying Certificate is 90.68 as compared to that of boys which is 88.30
  • Over all percentage of candidates Eligible for Qualifying Certificate Chennai Region is 96.18 which is the highest as compared to other regions.

HIGHLIGHTS OF 2010 EXAMINATIONS

The Grading system has been introduced at Secondary School level (for Classes IX & X) effective from 2009-10 Academic Sessions. The details of grading scheme have been circulated to school vide circular no 40 also available on website www.cbse.nic.in.

Class XII

Overview:

  • Overall pass percentage is 79.87.
  • Girls do better than boys. Pass percentage of girls is 85.28 as compared to that of boys which is 75.90.
  • Pass percentage of regular students is 81.95 as compared to 41.99 of private/ patrachar candidates.
  • Over all pass percentage of Chennai Region is 92.17 which is the highest as compared to other regions.

For the first time class XII Students appeared in Graphics Design Course (Code NO – 71) and Heritage Crafts (Code no 70).

The overall pass percentage of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 board exams saw a drop of 1.13 percent. The board results were declared Friday in Delhi, Guwahati and Allahabad.

Girls beat the boys.

  • 85.25 per cent of girls passed this year, while only 75.90 per cent of the boys passed.
  • Chennai produced the best results, with 92.17 per cent of the candidates passing.
  • Delhi was the runner up with a 84.97 pass percentage.
  • The overall pass percentage was 79.87 percent compared to 81 percent last year.
  • The overall pass percentage was the highest in Chennai – 92.12 percent.
  • This year, 699,129 students – 408,367 boys and 290,762 girls – took the Class 12 board exams in the country and abroad.
  • With a a pass percentage of 90.67, students from the Gulf region have outperformed their India counterparts in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams for class 12.
  • A total of 7,064 students appeared for the exams in March from 69 Indian schools in various Gulf countries like the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia
  • Three Delhi students scored a whopping 97.2 percent and topped the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 exams in the capital.
  • Two of the students (Divanshu Agrawal, Shruti Lakhtakia) who excelled in the exams are from Delhi Public School in R.K. Puram, while the third (Sneha Agrawal) is from Rukmini Devi Public School in Pitampura.

A total number of 7,00,983 candidates were registered for Class XII examination from 6,035 schools this year. The autonomous Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) have outdone other schools across India with a pass percentage of 95.31 in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 exams. The performance of JNVs was followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) where the overall pass percentage was 91.13, a drop of 0.19 per cent from last year. Among the five large states in the region, Tamil Nadu comes first followed by Karnataka where 97.05% of the students had passed the examination. “In Tamil Nadu, 6,065 students including 2,573 girls had appeared in the examination this year. Of the total candidates, 2,509 girls and 3,381 boys emerged successful. Last year, 5,495 out of 5,783 students from the state had cleared the examination,” CBSE Chennai region joint secretary N Nagaraju said.

Kerala, which has the largest number of 407 CBSE schools in the region, has come third this time with 93.52% of its 26,077 candidates successfully clearing the examination. Maharashtra with 125 schools is placed next in the list big states with a pass percentage of 92.97. Andhra Pradesh has notched a pass percentage of 87.27%. Only Goa with just 8 schools and less than 400 examinees has a better pass percentage of 98.23 than Tamil Nadu in the region.
