Sainik Schools in the country have been established by Ministry of Defence in many states since 1961 with an aim to prepare boys for entry into National Defence Academy. Sainik School, Rewa was established in MP on 20 Jul 1962 at the sprawling estate known as Yuvraj Bhawan provided by Govt of Madhya Pradesh. The majestic palace belonged to erstwhile Maharaja Martand Singh Ju Deo, Yuvraj of princely state of Rewa. The team of founder members under the dynamic leadership of Lt Col RR Narang, the Principal toiled hard to establish the School on the land of White Tigers on 20 Jul 1962. The school started functioning in full swing from Classes V to IX with an initial strength of 150 students.
There is a Local Board of Administration for each school The chairman is a senior defence service officer of the rank of major General or equivalent . The Senior Officer Incharge Administration, Central Air Command , Allahabad is the chairman of the Local Board of Administration for Sainik School Rewa. The local board of administration also comprises the Hon'ble member of parliament, Eminent educationists, PWD and State Education Department representatives, the district collecter and a parent member.
