CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest 2015 [CCCC 2015]
Crossword puzzles help students improve their vocabulary, reasoning, lateral thinking and analytical abilities. Deciphering solutions from the given clues help young minds develop other cognitive skills, like making inferences, evaluating alternatives and drawing conclusion. Learning becomes so much more enjoyable as different mental faculties are challenged. Most importantly, solving a crossword puzzle results in a sense of personal achievement, which is so vital for personality development. Crossword is also an interesting and effective educational tool, for students and teachers alike.
The CCCC 2015, is a CBSE challenge initiated for students studying in classes IX to XII, to be coordinated by Extra-C. The contest would be conducted in two phases.
- City Round: Inter school contest in select cities during May-September,2015, as per the calendar attached at Annexure I.
Schools located in the vicinity of the designated cities may also participate. School teams consisting of two students solve a written cryptic crossword puzzle in 60 minutes. Winners and the first runner- up teams receive certificates and prizes
National Round: A two- day event in New Delhi during December 2015.
- The quarter final: A written cryptic crossword puzzle to be solved in 60 minutes by all the participating teams. Top 16 teams qualify for the semi-finals.
- The semi-final: The 16 qualifying teams, placed in 4 groups of four teams each participate in four separate, on- stage cryptic crossword contests of 60 minutes based on in a power-point format.
- The final: Top teams from each semi-final compete in the on-stage final.
- Winners and runners-up are eligible for trophies and certificates
(i) National Winners: Prizes worth Rs. 25000 each, trophies and certificates
(ii) National Runners-up: Prizes worth Rs. 15000 each, trophies and certificates
(iii) National Finalists (3rd and 4th): Prizes worth Rs. 10,000 each, trophies
and certificates
(iv) City Round Winners: Trophies and certificates
General Condition:
- Winners and runners-up are eligible for prizes, and all participants will receive certificates.

- Please go to the website www.cbseacademic.in for further updates about various rounds of the contest
- Second class rail fare for two students and one school escort will be reimbursed to the teams competing in the National Round.
- School Heads are requested to ensure the participation of their students in this exciting contest.
