News : CBSE to introduce grade system till Class XII

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi, has decided to start with the grading system for all classes from the coming academic session (2009-2010). This was announced by Vineet Joshi, secretary of the CBSE, who is all set to succeed Ashok Ganguly as the new chairman of the board.

Principal of Nanakana Sahib Public School, Gill Road, Harmeet Kaur, said, “ During the National Sahodaya Conference of Principals, held recently at the Pampon School, Bhopal, CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi said that students passing out from Class X in March 2010 will have their result in grades and not in percentage. It will automatically be implemented in classes VII, VIII, XI and XII also.”

Principals and heads from over 35 CBSE-affiliated schools, including five from Ludhiana, had participated in the conference.

The grading system was, earlier, introduced in classes from LKG to Class VI. For the other classes, however, the board had then given an option either to opt for the percentage system or the grade system. With the latest announcement, the grading system will be in use in the other classes also.

Principal of Guru Nanak Public School R S Gill further added, “Many useful aspects related to academics and other co-curricular activities have been introduced.

These include synergy of virtual classroom with real classroom, multi-polar learning in formal learning system and integrating life skills in schools among others.”
