Maharashtra government will change the syllabus of SSC/HSC like CBSE, ICSE
The Maharashtra government will change the curriculum for students from Class
9 to 12 in the next two years in a phased manner in order to bring it on a par
with the syllabi in other states.
The changes will occur “especially in the subjects of maths and science” for
Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) board
students, Education Minister Balasaheb Thorat said in the Legislative Council on
Thursday. While the syllabus for Class 9 will change in the coming academic year
(2010-11), the ones for Class 10 and 11 will be amended in the academic year
2011-12 and that for Class 12 in 2012-13. Details of the changes are being
worked out and would be announced soon, the minister said.
Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal had in February said the
government wanted the maths and science curriculum to be uniform across all
boards — HSC, ICSE and CBSE — for Class 11 and 12. The changes for Class 9 and
10 too are in keeping with this policy. “This upgradation of the existing
syllabus is in accordance with the Centre’s education policy,” Thorat said.
This would help students from the state take on those from other states in competitive exams, he added.
