English - Subject Notes:
This is a set of News Headlines type exercise. The knowledge of VOICE & other basic grammar enable the students to solve such exercises. The students need to identify the structure of sentences. Writers constantly make choices about which voice to use. In any sentence, the choice of voice can greatly affect how forceful the writing is and how clearly it gives the meaning.
Read these two sentences:
Anu teaches Science.
Science is taught by Ritu.
The two sentences communicate the same idea,
but they're constructed differently.
The first sentence is written in active voice. This means that the noun that is
the subject of the sentence performs the action the sentence describes. Ritu
(the subject) teaches Science.
The second sentence is in passive voice: The action is performed upon the
subject of the sentence. Science (the subject) is taught by Ritu.
Now try these two NEWS HEADLINES Exercises & identify the sentence structure:-
