Non - Technical Cadre Examination
Railway Recruitment Boards conducts a Civil Services
examination for the recruitment of the non-technical categories in Grade C
services, i.e., Clerks, Assistant Station Masters, Ticket Collectors, Train
Clerks, etc.
The Boards located at Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Chandigarh, Jammu, Gorakhpur,
Patna, Guwahati, Calcutta, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Trivandrum, Bangalore,
Secunderabad, Mumbai, Bhopal, Malda, Ranchi, etc; advertise the vacancies
through Newspapers/Employment News and conduct the written examination as well
as interviews.
Eligibility:
Following table shows the eligibility criteria for Non–Technical cadre examinations in Railways:

Junior Accounts Assistant | Graduation. Typewriting proficiency of 30 wpm in English | 18-30 yrs |
Clerk-cum-Typist | Graduation. Minimum Typing speed of 40 wpm in English | 18-30 yrs |
Stenographer(English/Hindi) | Matriculation or Equivalent (with certificate of 80 wpm in English/Hindi Stenography and 40 wpm in English/20 wpm in Hindi Typewriting speed) | 18-33 yrs |

Examination Pattern:
The written test consists of
1. General English(and/or Hindi)
2. Mathematics
3. General Knowledge
4. General Intelligence
The test will be mainly of Objective Type. Candidates are expected to possess a
broad knowledge of current events and matters of general interest particularly
relating to India, including Indian Railways.
Depending upon the number of vacancies and merit list, candidates are called for
interview. Final selection is based on the total marks obtained in the written
examination and interview.
Syllabus :
General English
Questions on General English are designed to test the candidate's correct usage
of prepositions, words and phrases.
Mathematics
Questions on Mathematics are designed to test accuracy and rapidity.
General Knowledge
Candidates are expected to possess a broad knowledge of current events and
matters of general interest, particularly relating to India, including Indian
Railways.
General Intelligence
- The questions are designed to test the candidate's power of reasoning and his ability to draw conclusions.
- The candidate selected may be absorbed depending on vacancies available after successful completion of prescribed training as per the rules.
- The final appointment of the candidates will be subject to their being found medically fit in appropriate Medical Classification of Railways. They may be considered in due course for promotion to higher grades including supervisory levels according to rules/orders in force from time to time.
Application Procedure :
Candidates can apply through the application forms published in the daily Newspapers or Employment News. RRB advertises vacancies in Employment News (a Government of India publication), and also on the website of Indian Railways. The applications received go through a primary screening. Eligible candidates are called for a written exam. The call letters are sent out a month in advance of the date of the examination.
