New Format: 20% of CBSE Questions To Be Analytical
Hoping
to ace the boards? Forget past year question papers, concentrate on concepts.
Announcing the blueprint for this year's new-format board exams on Thursday,
CBSE said 20% of the questions will be designed to test students' conceptual
knowledge.
The announcement comes perilously close to the exams, which begin on March 1.
Said Ashok Ganguly, CBSE chairman: "From
this year, a part - 20% - of the paper will have analytical questions which will
be different from past years' papers."
In
effect, this means that these will be phrased differently from the regular
questions and answering them will require sound understanding of concepts as
well as critical thinking.
The move, says the board, is to differentiate the best from the rest. Said
Ganguly, "If a student scores 100% in this paper, then he's really the
best." In the new scheme, 10% of the questions will be very short answer
questions, and 20% will be concept-based. The rest though remains the same.
