A 4-Day Study Plan For Class - X
(Maths)

Are you are ready for the mathematics challenge?

The last few days can be either wasted away studying (and in most cases, playing and watching cricket) aimlessly or can be utilised in the most effective manner. All you need is a good plan.

Examination experts have prepared a four-day focused plan for the readers of rediff.com. E-mail it to your friends (whom you do want to follow this simultaneously), download it, take a print out and past it in your study room if you are sincerely interested in scoring 100 per cent.

March 4
How should you begin?

Obviously, an assessment test that can expose your strong and weak areas to you in a mere three hours is the best way to develop a priority list of topics to be covered. So, take a sample test which has a marking scheme given along.

Use the marking scheme to evaluate your answers. Note down the chapters and topics where you lost marks. Revise those chapters/ topics from the NCERT book before noon.

After noon you can take up algebra to revise.

  • Do a few typical problems from non-NCERT book on graphical solutions to pairs of linear equations.

  • Do a few questions related to solving typical type of pair of linear equations as given in exercises of the NCERT book.

  • Learn/ revise how to form equations when roots are given and do the questions related to sum of zeroes and product of zeroes from the chapter polynomials. Use a textbook different from NCERT if you have already done it.

  • Move on to word problems related to linear equations and quadratic equations. Try only the type of questions given in NCERT.

  • Do questions related to degrees of polynomials.

  • Pick up discriminant-related problems from quadratic equations and solve them.

  • Do some questions related to predicting the no of solution of pair of linear equations.

  • Do a few problems of finding HCF of three numbers through division lemma.

  • Do HCF word problems.

  • Learn the definitions and theorem statements and conditions in the chapter on real numbers.

  • Do a few problems on proving numbers to be irrational. Do the typical ones like 2-3, 23, 6 and 2 / 3.

  • Before winding up the day, write down all the geometry theorems in your own words through diagrams and paste it in front of your study table.

March 5

  • Do a few sample questions from AP like:
    ~ Finding first negative term.
~ Finding k, if the given three terms are in AP.
~ Finding nth term from the last.

  • Do a few word problems related to AP.

  • Start with finding the value of trigonometric expression if one of the trigonometric relations is given.

  • Do some typical problems related to complementary angles in trigonometry.

  • Start working on the trigonometric identity types.
~ Trigonometric functions under square root type.
    ~ 1 + Tanx + Secx type

  • Take on the height and distance problems from the past 10 years examinations. Many of the types are repetitive.

  • Do some mensuration problems related to
    ~ Conversion of solids
~ Combination of solids (costing problems)
    ~ Frustum
    ~ Volume (costing problems)
    ~ Surface area (costing problems)
    ~ Proof types questions.

  • Wind up the day after doing geometry (triangles) exercises 1 and 2 from NCERT textbook along with all the theorems.

March 6

  • Start with the theorems from Circles. Learn their derivations

  • Move on to Statistics and practice problems related to
    ~ Mean, Median and Mode
~ Missing frequencies (mean, median and mode)
~ Drawing less than and more than ogives.
~ Interpretation of less than / more than ogives (learn the theory as well)

  • Use a good book to do questions related to probability
~ Questions related to numbers or cards.
~ Questions related to drawing a type of card.
~ Questions related to sample space.
    ~ Probability word problems.
~ Questions related to balls in a bag.

  • Do the remaining exercises related to triangles from NCERT book.

March 7

  • Take up the exercises related to circles

  • Do typical problems from the chapter on Areas Related to Circles

  • Take another Mock Test and analyse your areas that remain weak.

  • You are still left with enough time to repeat the whole process one more time quickly

Experts have developed new practice questions which will be updated on daily basis in the 'Latest in Education Section'.

Please remember that you should wind up your preparation by afternoon, March 10. Relax and watch a comedy (yes, a comedy!) in the evening. Make sure you do it. All you will need after this preparation is a cool mind in the exam hall. Start now and enjoy your preparation, nobody can stop you from scoring a perfect 100.

All the best!
