Prisms

When a beam of white light passes through a raindrop, or a glass prism, it is split into the colours of the rainbow. In optics, a prism is a device used to refract light, reflect it or break it up (to disperse it) into its constituent spectral colours (colours of the rainbow). The traditional geometrical shape is that of a triangular prism, with a triangular base and rectangular sides. Some types of optical prisms are not in fact in the shape of geometric prisms.

Reflection of Light

If we draw a line perpendicular to a surface, this line is the normal of the surface. When a ray of light hits the surface of an object, part of the light is reflected. If the ray of light is in angle with the surface, then the angle between the incident ray and the normal will be the same angle between the normal and the reflected ray.

Cartesian Diver

A Cartesian diver is a classic science experiment, named for Ren Descartes, in which an eye dropper or other container open only at the bottom (the "diver") is placed in a much larger container with flexible walls, such as a 2-liter soft drink bottle, and adjusted so it barely floats at the top of the water in the larger container.

Matter

One of the main quests of science throughout the ages has been to discover what matter is made of - and what holds it together. All matter is made out of many tiny particles called atoms. The study of how these atoms interact is called chemistry. Modern physics has discovered how atoms are made up of smaller particles and how these particles interact to build atoms into molecules and larger objects of matter.
