There will be two papers in the subject.

Paper I: Theory - 3 hour ... 70 marks

Paper II: Practical - 3 hours ... 20 marks

PAPER I -THEORY- 70 Marks

Paper I shall be of 3 hours duration and be divided into two parts.

Part I (20 marks): This part will consist of compulsory short answer questions, testing knowledge, application and skills relating to elementary/fundamental aspects of the entire syllabus.

Part II (50 marks): This part will be divided into three Sections A, B and C. There shall be three questions in Section A (each carrying 9 marks) and candidates are required to answer two questions from this Section.

There shall be three questions in Section B (each carrying 8 marks) and candidates are required to answer two questions from this Section. There shall be three questions in Section C (each carrying 8 marks) and candidates are required to answer two questions from this Section. Therefore, candidates are expected to answer six questions in Part II.

Note: Unless otherwise specified, only S. I. units are to be used while teaching and learning, as well as for answering questions.

SECTION A

1. Electrostatics

(i) Coulomb's law, S.I. unit of charge; permittivity of free space.

(ii) Concept of electric field E = F/qo; Gauss' theorem and its applications.

(iii) Electric dipole; electric field at a point on the axis and perpendicular bisector of a dipole; electric dipole moment; torque on a dipole in a uniform electric field.

(iv) Electric lines of force.

(v) Electric potential and potential energy; potential due to a point charge and due to a dipole; potential energy of an electric dipole in an electric field. Van de Graff generator.

(vi) Capacitance of a conductor C = Q/V, the farad; capacitance of a parallel-plate capacitor;

(vii) Dielectrics (elementary ideas only); permittivity and relative permittivity of a dielectric (∈r = ∈/∈o). Effects on pd, charge and capacitance

2. Current Electricity.

Subject: Mathematics

There will be one paper of three hours duration of 100 marks. The syllabus is divided into three sections A, B and C. Section A is compulsory for all candidates. Candidates will have a choice of attempting questions from either Section B or Section C.

Section A (80 marks) will consist of 9 questions. Candidates will be required to answer Question 1(compulsory) and five out of the rest of the eight questions.

Section B/C (20 marks) Candidates will be required to answer two questions out of three from either Section B or Section C.

Subject: Business Studies

There will be one paper of 3 hours duration of 100 marks and divided into 2 parts.

Part 1 (30 marks) will consist of compulsory short answer questions testing knowledge, application and skills relating to elementary / fundamental aspects of the entire syllabus.

Part 2 (70 marks) will consist of seven questions out of which the candidate will be required to answer five questions, each carrying 14 marks.

JEE (Advanced) - 2013

About JEE 2013:

Joint Admission Board (JAB) of IIT Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2013 met on August 27, 2012 at IIT Delhi to discuss the forthcoming admission. The admission to the undergraduate programmes at the IITs and ISM, Dhanbad for the year 2013 will be based only on category wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE(Advanced) subject to the condition that such candidates are in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates of their Boards in applicable categories. The JEE (Advanced) will be held on June 2, 2013 (only offline). To be eligible to give JEE(Advanced), the candidates have to first appear in the JEE(Main) to be conducted by JEE Apex Board. The JEE (Main) will be held during the month of April, 2013 (both offline and online). Only 1,50,000 of the top rankers in JEE(Main), which includes students from all categories( GE,OBC(NCL), SC and ST ) will be eligible to appear in JEE(Advanced). The JEE (Advanced)-2013 will have two objective type papers. Each paper will consist of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Duration of each paper will be 3-hours. Question papers will be in both English and Hindi.

Reading Material on Philosophy

for Class XII

PREFACE

Philosophy, as a foundational discipline of all knowledge, is essentially practice-oriented. It is both a view and a way of life. It is not just love of wisdom, as its etymology may suggest, but also shaping a life in accordance with the acquired wisdom. It is no doubt a theoretical enterprise but it is not speculative. It has practical applications, as theory without practice is lame and futile and conversely practice without theoretical foundation is blind and at random. Though philosophy is global in its theoretical formulation its application has to be local and regional in concrete life-situations and therefore Indian context is prominently put forth here. It can be supplemented from contexts of other cultures.
The need for some reference material in Philosophy was being felt for quite some time since there are only a few study materials existing particularly at school level on applied philosophy. It is expected this reading material will prove useful to our teachers in effective transaction of this syllabus and to our students in preparing for their examination.
